1Rekindle the SunYouTubeRead Story
We landed on Heffe, under a yellow dwarf's light
Alan spoke the language, everything seemed bright
But I was the wife, just along for the ride
With no words of my own, nowhere to hide
He ordered for both of us, talked to our guests
While I planted seeds, alone in my unrest

A kitty-willow tree, waiting to bloom
While the sun was dying, sealing our doom

Baury was there with his ribbons of gold
A friend in a world that was starting to fold
"Listen for the insults," he told me with a grin
But all I could hear was the silence within

Rekindle the sun, make the atoms hold tight
Alan is working through the endless night
But the strong force is slipping, the fusion won't stay
The yellow dwarf is fading, drifting away
I'm trying to plant roots, struggling not to be left behind
But Alan can't see me, through all his designs

A kitty-willow tree, waiting to bloom
While the sun was dying, sealing our doom

When the kitty-willow blossoms, kittens fall to the ground
A secret delight I finally found
But Alan is busy, too lost in the math
He can't see me walking a separate path
Obsessed with a sun that's dying, while I'm dying inside
He yells about witches, he yells about lies
While the truth is burning in this alien sky
A red giant growing, feeding on fear
His plan has failed, the expansion is near
The whole planet must evacuate — it's time to get out of here!

Sharon has a greenhouse, a future, a plan
Not saving the star, but doing what she can
"Artificial red giants are the best kind," she says
"For growing new life when the old one is dead."
I look at the ships leaving the port
And make a decision of a different sort

I won't board the ship, I won't fly away
I'm choosing the fire, I'm choosing to stay
To garden the giant, to live in the heat
The path I've been walking is finally complete
And it led to here

Rekindle the sun, make the atoms hold tight
Alan kept working through endless nights
But the strong force slipped, the fusion didn't stay
The yellow dwarf faded, our love drifted away
So I’ll pack up my roots, I’ll leave him behind
For a garden of fire that Sharon designed

"I'm sorry," I told him, stepping away
Into the light of a brand new day
Flying toward the giant, swelling and red
To plant kitten-seeds where the plasma is spread

While the sun was reborn, sealing our doom
My new life begins, it was waiting to bloom

Gardening the sun…
It's where I belong
Gardening the sun…
Where the light is strong
Gardening the sun…
My true and final home
Everything led to here

(Fade out on a warm, glowing synth chord)
2Life with the TumblersYouTubeRead Story
Six months to leave, six months to find
The life I was losing, the peace of mind
My husband said "savage," he said "waste of time"
But I packed up our son and committed the crime
Of leaving the farm for the tumbler town
Where the sun-bees glow when the sun goes down
Sleatoo was waiting, a friend in the leaves
With a face in the branches that only Kyan perceives

They soak in the water, absorb the light
No need for a table, no appetite
A culture of memory, rooted and slow
Waiting for something that I didn't know

Life with the tumblers, strange and deep
Secrets they hold while the humans sleep
Limbs like branches, eyes like flowers
Dancing through the daylight hours
But the elders are stiff, and the elders are old
Waiting for a story that hasn't been told

Derrick arrived with a caravan train
Bringing the family, bringing the pain
"Come home," he demanded, "Enough of this play"
But the tumblers were circling, not rolling away
They danced in the firelight, slow and surreal
A forest in motion, with nothing to conceal
But my marriage was breaking, a silent divide
While Kyan played pirates with the ancients inside

"You gotta stop them!" Kyan cried out
Smoke in the air, a terrible shout
The nursery is burning, the glass walls are bright
My nephews played with matches in the middle of the night!
I ran to the flames, my heart in my throat
But the elders were singing a different note
Not screaming in pain, but chanting a song
A rite of passage they’d waited for long

Life with the tumblers, strange and deep
Secrets they hold while the humans sleep
Limbs like branches, eyes like flowers
Dancing through the daylight hours
The elders are burning, the elders are gone
But the seedlings will rise with the coming dawn

The ashes are damp, the smoke clears away
Derrick has left, but I’m going to stay
Sleatoo points down to a spot on the floor
"A new child is growing, just like before"
My promise is broken, my future is free
To study the life of the tumbler tree
(And Kyan is smiling…)
(Kyan is smiling…)

3Summers on SylverraYouTubeRead Story
Woke up in orbit, pretending to sleep
Hearing the secrets my parents keep
"He makes such illusions," my mother said
"I'm afraid she'll stay here until she's dead."
But the ship touched down in the twilight gray
And I ran to the meadows to start the day
Where the grass turns emerald beneath my feet
And the air is heavy, and the air is sweet

Grandpa Brent is waiting there
With unicorns and elves of silver hair
He made this world from a genetic dream
Sewn together at the DNA seam

Summers on Sylverra, where the ladybugs shine
Rubies in the grass of a grand design
The elves are laughing in the village square
Photosynthetic skin and fiber-optic hair
My mother says it’s a selfish place
A private planet in the depths of space
But I see the beauty, I see the art
Beating inside of an engineered heart

I asked my mother why she hates the view
She said, "He plays god, and that isn't true."
He stole the tech and he ran away
To build a garden where the children play
But the elves aren't pets, and the birds are free
Poems on their wings for the world to see
He’s not a king on a golden throne
Just an old man working in a lab alone

"Why don't you come back?" I asked him then
"To the world of cities and the world of men?"
He shrugged his shoulders, looked at the screen
Coding the wings of a creature unseen
"I'm a fugitive, Tara, can't you see?"
But I think he just wants to be wild and free

Summers on Sylverra, where the ladybugs shine
Rubies in the grass of a grand design
The elves are laughing in the village square
Photosynthetic skin and fiber-optic hair
My mother says it’s a selfish place
A private planet in the depths of space
But I see the beauty, I see the art
Beating inside of an engineered heart

I'll go home when the summer ends
Leave the unicorns and my elven friends
But I’m taking a secret, a lesson learned
From the bridges burned and the pages turned
Grandpa is teaching me how to create
To write my own code, to choose my own fate

4The Parable of Two QueensYouTubeRead Story

I’m Commander Dyall, and I’m losing my mind
With two alien species of the insect kind
The Zi'rai warrior, stripes catching the light
And the Zee'nee drone, cowering in the night
They’re fighting in the halls, they’re snapping their jaws
Breaking every one of the Expansionist laws
So I separated them, locked them away
To figure out what their Queens have to say

Two Queens in the dark, two Queens in the void
One is enraged, and one is annoyed
"Her Highness" and "Her Majesty," titles so grand
Lost in the wreckage of a shattered land
Myrmecoid monarchs, miles apart
Sharing a history, sharing a heart

"I demand vengeance! I demand blood!
For the cowards who fled the cosmic flood!"

"We sought only peace, a quiet retreat
We will not bow down at your violent feet!"

"You left us to die in the burning star!"

"We found the rip, we traveled so far!"

I brought them together in the negotiation room
Guards at the ready, sensing the doom
But then the translation started to clear
And the anger dissolved into something near
They looked at each other, across the divide
And saw the same loneliness hiding inside
A universe lost, a species torn
A new empire was about to be born

Two Queens in the light, two Queens face to face
Building a future for the vestiges of their race
"Her Highness" and "Her Majesty," titles so grand
Ruling together in a asteroid land
Myrmecoid monarchs, never apart
Sharing a history, sharing a heart

"We withdraw our command," the Zi'rai said
"We forgive the Zee'nee," the anger is dead
They’re talking so fast, the Keats can’t keep up
Pouring new plans from a bitter cup
I’m just a diplomat, signing the lease
Leaving the Queens to their war… and their peace.

5Apples in ArubaYouTubeRead Story
(App-pa-pa… roo-ba-ba… appa-roo-ba-pa…)
Sat down at the All Alien Cafe
Opened up the menu, gonna order today
Said I'll have the tuna, it's what I always get
Jeggy shook his head, said "You ain't seen nothing yet"

That's like apples in Aruba, baby
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Apples in Aruba, it's crazy
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
You gotta try something new
Something tropical, properly exotic will do
Don't be eating apples in Aruba

(App-pa-pa… roo-ba-ba… appa-roo-ba-pa…)
Then a gentleman walked in, took the table on our right
Six crab legs and a carapace, oh what a sight
Spiny green tail and hexagonal spikes
Looked a little bit like a pineapple, yikes!

That's like apples in Aruba, baby
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Apples in Aruba, it's crazy
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Something tropical and new
Sitting right in front of you
Don't be eating apples in Aruba

(Roo-ba-roo-ba… appa-pa-roo-ba…)
The galaxy's wide and the menu is long
But Lawrence stuck with what he knew all along

He ordered the tuna anyway
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Some folks never change their ways
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Apples in Aruba, just for you
(Appa-roo-ba, roo-ba-roo…)
Instead of something tropical and new
6Emmanuel and the CannibalsYouTubeRead Story
The Clemency crashed in a valley green
The prettiest crash that I've ever seen
I popped the hatch and I grabbed my wrench
Expecting a jungle or a hostile trench
But out of the trees came a man in reeds
Speaking Solanese, planting friendly seeds
"Come to the feast," he said with a grin
"The Human Expansion is wearing thin."

Denwell told stories of the ship before
Six generations on the forest floor
No animals here, no birds in the sky
Just silent woods where the shadows lie
They served me mushrooms, they served me roots
But then came the platters with the stranger fruits

Oh, the valley had no birds,
And the village had no beasts,
But the people smiled so kindly
When they called me to their feast.
There are worlds that keep their secrets
Till you taste what lies beneath…
And I wish I’d never followed
When they called me to that feast.

I ran to the ship, I couldn't partake
The smell of the roast made my stomach ache
The beautiful girl with her hair so long
Singing a siren's cannibal song
I had to fix this, see them saved
Before it all ended in a cooking grave
So I flew to a dealer, bought up his stock
Filled my cargo ship with a noisy flock!

So I brought them sheepalos and bovinids, bright-eyed and bold,
Living echoes of the creatures that their ancestors had once known
I thought I’d save a people lost to hunger, fear, and need —
But you don’t change ancient stories
With a single stranger’s deed.
For they loved those gentle creatures
Like their daughters, sons, and kin…
And they buried them with flowers—
But they ate their enemies’ skin.

Oh, the valley had no birds,
And the village had no beasts,
But the people smiled so kindly
When they called me to their feast.
There are worlds that keep their secrets
Till you taste what lies beneath…
And I wish I’d never followed
When they called me to that feast.

They buried the cow in the sacred ground
And cooked the invader by the burial mound
For it's easy damning monsters
When they look like beasts to you
But it's harder when the monsters
Are as gentle as they are cruel
And I flew away, trying to forget
I need to file my report
But just keep telling myself, "not yet"
Not yet
7For the Sake of MushroomsYouTubeRead Story
The red sun glows on the forward screen
An evil eye, a dying dream
It stares right into my weary soul
A burning hole where I lost control
Once it was warmth on my fur and my face
Now it's just death in the cold of space
Recycled air in a metal shell
Orbiting the edge of a solar hell

Heffe betrayed us, the yellow star fell
Rushed to its death by a science spell
A race scattered to the winds of the dark
Searching for home in a fading spark

I steer the ship to the scorched remains
A burnt rock circling in gravitational chains
I say goodbye, or I say I’m here
Swallowed by the giant, year after year
Why do I pull away? Why do I turn?
When everything I loved was left to burn?

The cargo hold is full today
Mushrooms from a system far away
They'd spoil in the belly of a sun, hot and red
(Though they're brined in jars, already dead)
But it’s reason enough to turn the wheel
To fight the gravity that I feel
To point the nose to the station light
And survive the red giant for one more night

An artist’s paintings, a robot’s arm
A passenger kept away from harm
Small things keep me from the fire
Pulling me back from the funeral pyre

I steer the ship to the scorched remains
A burnt rock circling in gravitational chains
I say goodbye, or I say I’m here
Swallowed by the giant, year after year
Why do I pull away? Why do I turn?
When everything I loved was left to burn?

It wasn’t a good reason to live, I know
Just mushrooms in the cargo, nowhere to go
But today it was enough.
Today it was enough.
To keep flying.
Just keep flying

8The Ambi-Cognitive ManYouTubeRead Story
Parked the hopper at the edge of town
Hiding in the hull, didn't want to come down
Jordy took the keys, kicked us out the door
Into a world we’d never seen before
Wide frames, double names, everywhere we look
Like we stepped inside a mirror in a history book

They’re staring at us!
No, they’re staring at me!
It’s the perfect place for twins like us to be!

Living in stereo, walking in time
Two hearts beating in a singular rhyme
Ambi-cognitive, double the view
I’m looking at her, and I’m looking at you
Left side, Right side, never alone
We found a place we can call our own

Met a girl at the bar, drinking Apricot fizz
Trying to figure out just what she is
She’s Lori on the left, she’s Lori on the right
A double-date disaster or a beautiful sight?
Tom likes the talker, with the infectious grin
Henry likes the quiet one holding her thoughts in

She says we’re crazy (We say we’re fine)
She says we’re broken (We say divine)
She wants to fix us, cure the split
But we don't want any part of it!
We like the chaos, we like the noise
We’re the Ambi-Cognitive boys!

Living in stereo, walking in time
Two hearts beating in a singular rhyme
Ambi-cognitive, double the view
I’m looking at her, and I’m looking at you
Left side, Right side, never alone
We found a place we can call our own

Are we staying? (Yeah, we're staying)
Is it working? (Yeah, we're playing)
Living in stereo…

She says we’re crazy (We say we’re fine)
She says we’re broken (We say divine)
She wants to fix us, cure the split
But we don't want any part of it!
We like the chaos, we like the noise
We’re the Ambi-Cognitive boys!

We don't need a cure, we don't need a fix
We're happy right here in this crazy mix
One body, two minds, a perfect design
Living our life on the double line!
No more hiding, no more shame
We're playing the cards of a different game!

Living in stereo…
Living in stereo…
9The Girl Who Could Hear the Stars SingYouTubeRead Story

I was born with a song in the center of my mind
A melody of fire that no one else could find
My parents kept me hidden, shielded from the light
Afraid of my tears, afraid of my sight
But the sun was a voice, whispering low
Rising and falling in a golden glow
The fabric of my life, the rhythm of my days
Lost in the warmth of the solar rays

I wrote it all down in a code of my own
A secret language that I had known
Michaela found the words, she gave it a name
And we sang the star's song in the candle flame

Can you hear the stars sing? Can you hear the sound?
It’s heavy and beautiful, shaking the ground
Soliri is calling, a lullaby of fire
Lifting my spirit higher and higher
Not just a burning ball in the sky
But a voice that will never, ever die

We formed a band, we took to the stage
The Star Girls singing on a cosmic page
But they booked a tour in the deep dark black
And I was afraid I could never come back
To the silence of space, the empty void
Where the song of my sun would be destroyed

We jumped to hyperspace, the signal died
I fell to my knees and I broke down and cried
But then in the silence, a new sound grew
Not just one voice, but a billion new!
War songs and love songs, ancient and deep
From stars that are waking and stars that sleep
A chorus of giants, a galaxy of sound
Spinning and singing all around!

Can you hear the stars sing? Can you hear the sound?
It’s heavy and beautiful, shaking the ground
The galaxy is calling, a lullaby of fire
Lifting my spirit higher and higher
Not just a burning ball in the sky
But a voice that will never, ever die

I wrote down the music, unmarred and pure
But the fans didn't get it, of that I was sure
Until we met the Flaenos, burning and bright
Living in the clouds of a binary light
They heard what I heard, they knew what I knew
The conversation of stars, ringing true

I am the scribe, I am the ear
For the songs that the rest of you can't hear
I won't give it up, I won't turn away
From the music of the night and the music of the day
I hear them…
I hear them…
Singing to me.

10Little Sandy Starstrong and Her Faithful Robot DogsYouTubeRead Story
On a lonely little asteroid, under painted anti-grav skies,
Sandy’s chasing frisbees with two robots by her side.
TJ’s got laser eyes and L2D2 glows at night—
They’re faithful, loyal guardians… but something isn’t right.
Her dad says, “Fix your robots.”
Her mom says, “Be responsible.”
Sandy nods, but deep inside
She wants something impossible…

’Cause she’s one girl with two robots, and a dog on the way—
Learning how to love in the wandering stars’ ballet.
From asteroid to asteroid, she’s wishing for a friend…
Till a fuzzy little spaniel makes her heart expand again.
One girl, two robots, and a dog—
Yeah, that’s her pack till the journey ends.

At Kite Hill in the bubble dome, the sky a shifting blue,
A boy throws his WindTronics disc, she throws her Aero-Supreme too.
But the dog beside him isn’t metal, circuits, bolts, or steel—
It pants and breathes and wags its tail, so soft and warm and real.
Sandy’s heart does somersaults—
A world she never knew.
“Can I pet him?” “Yeah, of course.”
Suddenly her heart has room…

Now she’s one girl with two robots, and a dream taking shape—
A longing for a heartbeat in the artificial landscape.
Leaving friends behind is hard, goodbyes too sharp to mend…
But then a dog named Sparky
Teaches love can start again.
One girl, two robots, and a dog—
Yeah, that’s her pack till the journey ends.

Oh, training Sparky isn’t easy—
He’s chaos wrapped in fur.
He pulls the leash, he begs, he whines,
He needs attention, sure…
But he looks at her with honest eyes
No circuitry could fake—
And Sandy finds that loving him
Is worth each mess he makes.

Kella, lonely Altarian girl, becomes her asteroid friend,
They play scramball, trade secrets, beat each game time and again.
But leaving hurts like it always does—
Sandy’s window shows the stars…
Until she feels a fuzzy head
Remind her where her anchors are.
She’s learning love is portable,
Not tied to worlds she roams—
Sometimes a wagging tail can make
A starship feel like home.

Now she’s one girl with two robots, and a dog at her feet—
A little cosmic family on a trail of asteroids sweet.
She’s got goodbye-shaped scars, yeah, but she’s braver than she knows—
And with her pack beside her
There’s no telling where she’ll go.
One girl, two robots, and a dog—
That’s the crew of the Starstrong,
And the whole galaxy’s their road.
11The Promise of New HeffeYouTubeRead Story
They say a world is just a place you stand,
But mine was sunlight filtered through my mother’s hands.
I barely knew the forests of Heff-uh 8,
But I carried them inside me like a tune I couldn’t shake.
And on this metal station,
Under humming artificial skies,
I kept waiting for a sunrise
I’d only seen in someone else’s eyes.

I thought the trees were calling,
I thought a world could call me home.
But it turns out home was smaller—
Just a room where I’m not alone.
And the promise of New Heffe
Was a dream I never owned…
’Cause the life I’ve built right here is real,
And I don’t have to roam.

My family’s shouting futures down a tangled corridor,
Gold estates and city lots they swear are worth fighting for.
Mother’s pride like sharpened stone,
Cousins clawing for a place—
All of us remembering different ghosts
In the same ancestral space.
I tried to follow after,
But the past pulled like a tide…
Till I found a quiet bench
Where the noise fell off inside.

I thought the trees were calling,
I thought a world could call me home.
But it turns out home was chosen—
Not inherited or owed.
And the promise of New Heffe
Was a story I outgrew…
There’s a future here that’s mine to keep,
And it’s honest, bright, and true.

There was a human in the shadows,
Haunted by the sun he broke.
And pups afraid to leave the stars
In the station’s windowed dome.
I saw the cost of living life
For something long since gone…
And I knew that staying put
Could be the bravest way of moving on.

So I turned from painted planets,
From the echoes of my youth—
From every “maybe someday”
That had masqueraded as the truth.
I walked back to my own quarters,
To the life I’d made with care…
Tomorrow I’ll bring Aga flowers,
Ask her if she wants me there.

I thought the trees were calling—
Turns out it was just the wind
Blowing through the stories
Of the place I once had been.
New Heffe can be beautiful,
But it’s not where I begin…
’Cause the promise of tomorrow
Is the life I’m living in.

Some dreams shine like planets,
But some like lantern light—
Warm enough to guide you home
On any starless night.
12Harvesting WishesYouTubeRead Story
She wears a garland of yellow weeds
Grown in the aft from ancient seeds
A locket of clover, a secret chart
Navigating the dark with a lonely heart
Disable the nav, trust gravity's flow
To the edge of the dust where the icy specks glow
Orbiting the drain of a deathly silent hole
Searching for the rocks that have a soul

Harvesting wishes from the gravity well
In the silence of space where the asteroids dwell
Crack open the geode, let the hypercrystals shine
A milli-mole of magic in a parallel line
They look like marbles, they clack like rain
Harvesting wishes to rewrite the pain

The Errant arrived with his booming laugh
A shape-shifting ghost on a darker path
He wired the chips, he fixed the board
And we found the treasure the black hole stored
"I wish you'd leave," I said in the light
And the universe split in the dead of the night
Real and unreal, a dual display
Until the wish pushed him away

The genies come calling for a bundle of three
They believe in the flowers, they believe in me
"From the dandelion fluff," I tell them the lie
While the physics of the crystals spin in the sky
But now my old suitor stands at the gate
With a bouquet of weeds and a twist of fate

Harvesting wishes from the gravity well
In the silence of space where the asteroids dwell
Crack open the geode, let the hypercrystals shine
A milli-mole of magic in a parallel line
They look like marbles, they clack like rain
Harvesting wishes to rewrite the pain

I could rewrite the stars, I could change the past
Make a younger version that was built to last
I could use the crystal, I could pull the thread
But I’ll take his hand in this life instead
It’s the same old universe, worn and gray
But I wouldn't have it any other way.
No more wishes…
Just a second chance.
